Listen now (2 min) | WE WILL RECOVER A SENSE OF MEANING. WE WILL THRIVE IN COMMUNITY. More than ever, this sense of isolation is challenging our social structures. Brian Goodwin (1931-2009), founder of theoretical biology and biomathematics, shared with us in 2007 his hope for the future wellbeing of people and the planet, long before the 2020 global pandemic. His hope: that we will recover a sense of meaning in our lives. That future society will be dominated by abundance, celebration, joy, and a general high level of health and wellbeing. In 2007, he felt we would thrive in community; that was the way things were going to move but didn’t know how far or how fast. Thank you for your vision Dr. Goodwin. Like you, we are quite hopeful too. Brian Goodwin, who was a Founding Fellow at the Schumacher College in Devon, UK, was instrumental in starting the college's MSc in Holistic Science. He was a founding member of the Santa Fe Institute in New Mexico where he also served as a member of the science board for several years. In his career, Dr. Goodwin also introduced the use of complex systems and generative models in developmental biology.
